About Costcodle

Costcodle flips the Wordle formula on its head, swapping letters for numbers and everyday vocabulary for real Costco products. Each day brings a new photograph of an item you might find in the warehouse aisles, and your challenge is to guess its retail price. The game is completely fan-made and independent of the retailer, making it a fun homage for shoppers and puzzle fans alike.

The goal is simple: type in a price estimate and see whether you're too high or too low. But you don't need to hit the exact cent to win. As long as your guess lands within five percent of the actual price, you'll claim victory. With six attempts allowed, there's room to experiment but not so much that the challenge disappears.

Beyond the guessing, the interface is clean and straightforward. There are no timers or complex mechanics, just a product photo, an input field, and feedback arrows. This minimalist design keeps the focus on the mental math and your own intuition about grocery and merchandise pricing.

The game draws inspiration from Wordle but adds a finance-themed twist that makes it feel fresh. It's suitable for players who enjoy logic puzzles, price trivia, or just want a short daily brain teaser that connects to real-world shopping experiences.

How to Play Costcodle

Start by looking at the daily product photo displayed on the screen. Observe details like the item's size, packaging, brand, and any visible features that might hint at its price. Then type your best guess for the retail price in dollars and cents into the input box and submit it. After each guess, you'll see an arrow pointing up or down next to your entry. An up arrow means the actual price is higher than your guess, while a down arrow means it's lower. Use these clues to adjust your next attempt. You have up to six guesses to get within 5% of the true price. If you succeed, you win the daily puzzle. If not, the correct price will be revealed and you can try again the next day.

Tips for Costcodle

Pay close attention to the product's branding and packaging. Bulk items at Costco often have a price per unit that is lower than regular retail. If you know the non-sale price of a similar item elsewhere, adjust upward slightly for the larger size.

If you see a name-brand product, think about what it normally costs in a standard grocery store. Costco's price might be 10-30% lower due to bulk purchasing. For store-brand or Kirkland Signature items, the margins may be smaller.

When the feedback arrow shows your guess is too low, don't jump too high on the next attempt. A steady doubling or adding 20-30% can help you narrow in without overshooting.

If you're completely stumped, start with a broad round number like $10, $20, or $50 depending on the item type. Getting feedback early, even if far off, is better than random precise guesses.

Remember that the 5% margin is generous. If an item costs $100, anything from $95 to $105 will count as a win, so don't stress about exact cents.
